Preschool

If your child is under three, attend a Preschool Workshop. These are offered several times a week during the day and evening and are a great place to begin the admissions process.

A Parents League advisor leads a ninety minute workshop that guides you through the admissions process: when to start, how old your child should be, how to develop a list of preschools to look at, the application process, what to look for, and what to expect. You are given a Workshop book with a list of over 200 preschools organized by neighborhood.  The emphasis is on giving you the information you need.

After you have attended the workshop, you can also speak to a Parents League advisor by phone to go over your particular list of preschools or to ask questions that arise as you go through the process.

Our advisory team visits the schools regularly and has years of experience as teachers, admission directors, financial aid officers and independent school board members. They offer a unique perspective on the admission process and you have the benefit of their collaborative work with one another and with the schools.  Reservations are required to attend a Preschool Workshop and you must be a member. Join online or by phone and then call our office at 212-737-7385 to schedule a time to come in for a workshop. The Parents League has links to all member schools in the Schools section of the website.

How old will my child be?

Preschools start at different ages. The starting age they state is as of September 1 of the year the child will attend preschool. To calculate how old your child will be as of September 1, use the age calculator below. Age requirements are discussed in detail at the Preschool Workshop.
