Join middle and high school admissions experts, Evie Gurney and Katie Miller as they offer broad insight into the various public, private, and middle and high school options available in the New York area. Evie and Katie will discuss the range of admissions processes and timelines as well as touch upon strategies for the best possible outcomes. The aim is to help parents understand some of the changes in the current educational, admissions, and enrollment environment. There will be ample time for questions.
Katie Miller, Educational Consultant
Trained as a lawyer, Katie is the mother of three children, all of whom are products of NYC public schools. In addition to her broad expertise within the public admissions arena, she has up-to-date and personal knowledge of the middle and high school public school system and specifically, of 5 different Upper West Side programs. She has held a variety of leadership positions at these schools as well as other organizations such as West Side Soccer League. Before her career as an education and small business consultant, Katie was the Director of Civil Justice at Common Good and a Litigation Associate at Cleary Gottlieb. Katie graduated from Amherst College and received a joint J.D./ M.A. from Cornell Law School and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. www.katherinemillerconsulting.com
Evie Gurney, Parents League School Advisor
Prior to joining the Parents League, Evie was Director of High School Placement at the Bank Street School for Children, where she placed approximately 40 eighth-grade students per year at independent day and boarding schools, and public and parochial schools. Before switching to a career in education, Evie worked in advertising and was a book buyer at the American Folk Art Museum. She earned a B.A. from Yale University where she majored in English.
