Laura Danforth

Laura Danforth became Head of School at The Masters School in July 2015. Before joining Masters, she was Principal of the Upper School at  Ethical Culture Fieldston School in Riverdale, NY. Prior to that position, she served for 10 years as Associate Head of School at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT.

Laura currently serves as a Board member for NYSAIS (New York State Association of Independent Schools), a Board member for TABS (The Association of Boarding Schools), as well as Lead Head for Fairchester Heads, an organization of Westchester and Connecticut Schools. Also, Laura has served in a variety of administrative roles in her 30-year career in independent schools, including as Dean of Faculty at Suffield  Academy, Dean of Students at Ethel Walker School, and Director of Counseling at St. Paul’s School. 

Laura received a B.A. in psychology and anthropology from Colby-Sawyer College and an M.A. in counseling psychology from Lesley University. She is married to Dr. Paula Chu, a psychotherapist, former college dean and independent school administrator. They have three grown children and a granddaughter.
