NYC School Vacation Dates 2024/25

The following are the recommended NYC school vacation dates for independent schools in the 2024/25 academic year, provided by the Guild of Independent Schools. Labor Day: Monday, September 2 (school closed)

Opening Days: Week of September 3-6

Rosh Hashanah: Thursday, Friday, October 3 & 4 (some schools closed)

Yom Kippur: Saturday, October 12

Fall Weekend/Indigenous Peoples Day: Monday, October 14 (school closed)  

Diwali: Thursday, October 31(some schools closed)                                                                                                     
Thanksgiving: Thursday, Friday, November 28, 29 (school closed)

Winter Vacation:

Friday, December 20, classes end
Monday, January 6, classes resume

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.: Monday, January 20 (school closed)

Lunar New Year: Wednesday, January 29 (some schools closed)


Feb/Spring Breaks

Option A  – split weeks:

  • Friday, February 14, classes end, Monday, February 24, classes resume
  • Thursday, April 17, classes end, Monday, April 28 classes resume

Option B – 2 days in February and 2 weeks in Mar/April:

  • Presidents Days: Monday and Tuesday, February 17 and 18 (school closed)
  • Spring Break: Friday, March 14, classes end, Monday, March 31, classes resume              

Eid al-Fitr: Monday, March 31(some schools closed)

Passover: Sunday, April 13

Good Friday: Friday, April 18 (some schools closed)

Memorial Day: Monday, May 26 (school closed)

Closing days: Week of June 9 (some schools extend to the next week)

Juneteenth: Thursday, June 19 (some schools closed)
