Cookie Consent Notice
Effective Date: 7/14/2025
This Cookie Consent Notice explains how the Parents League of New York (“PLNY,” “we,” “us”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small data files that websites place on your device to store information about your preferences, device, or activity. Cookies help improve website functionality, enhance user experience, and provide analytics and advertising services. Cookies may be set by the website you are visiting (“first-party cookies”) or by third parties (“third-party cookies”).
2. Types of Cookies We Use
We use the following types of cookies on our website:
- Essential Cookies: These are required for the operation of our website. They enable core functionality such as secure login, form submissions, and navigation. These cookies cannot be disabled.
- Analytics Cookies: These help us understand how visitors interact with our website. We use Google Analytics to gather anonymized statistics on site usage, page views, and traffic sources. These cookies help us improve site content and structure.
- Advertising Cookies: These include tracking by Meta Pixel and Google Ads to build audiences for interest-based and lookalike advertising. These may rely on user demographics (e.g., age, location, interests) and browsing behavior. Consent is required where applicable.
We do not currently use embedded media services (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo) that set third-party cookies. If this changes in the future, we will update this Notice accordingly.
3. How We Use Cookies
Cookies help us:
- Remember your preferences and settings.
- Improve the functionality and performance of the site.
- Analyze user behavior for internal metrics.
- Provide personalized content and advertisements.
- Maintain security and detect fraudulent activity.
We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information, such as financial or health-related data.
4. Managing Cookie Preferences
At this time, PLNY does not display a cookie consent banner. However, users can manage cookie preferences by adjusting browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- Block non-essential cookies;
- Delete existing cookies;
- Alert you before cookies are stored.
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.
Future versions of the site may include a banner to allow you to manage or withdraw consent for specific cookie categories.
5. Do Not Track (DNT) and Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Our website does not currently respond to Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals because we are not required to do so as a non-profit organization. However, we respect user privacy preferences and provide alternative tools to manage cookies as described above.
6. Data Retention and Anonymization
We retain cookie-related data only as long as necessary to fulfill its purpose, consistent with applicable laws. When feasible, we anonymize or aggregate usage data, removing all personal identifiers to extend its value for analytical purposes.
Personally identifiable cookie data is deleted in accordance with retention schedules defined in our Privacy Notice. Data deletion is conducted in accordance with applicable laws, including FERPA, COPPA, and NY Education Law § 2-d. Where legally permitted, anonymization may be used to retain data without personal identifiers for analytical or operational use.
7. Third-Party Services
We may partner with third-party service providers, such as analytics and advertising platforms, who may place cookies on your device. These third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
Examples include:
- Google Analytics
- Google Ads / Display Network
