NYC School Vacation Dates 2022/23

The following are the recommended NYC school vacation dates for independent schools in the 2022/23 academic year, provided by the Guild of Independent Schools. Please note that these are simply suggested dates and not all schools follow the calendar exactly.

Labor Day: Monday, September 5

Opening Day: Thursday, September 8

Rosh Hashanah: Sunday, September 25 and Monday, September 26 (school closed)

Yom Kippur: Wednesday, October 5 (school closed)

Fall Weekend/Indigenous Peoples Day: Monday, October 10 (school closed)

Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 (school closed)

Winter Vacation:

Friday, December 16, classes end
Tuesday, January 3, classes resume

Martin L. King, Jr.: Monday, January 16 (school closed)

Lunar New Year: Sunday, January 22

Feb/Spring Breaks:
Option A: split weeks

Friday, February 17, classes end
Monday, February 27 classes resume
Wednesday, April 5, classes end
Monday, April 17 classes resume

Option B: 2 days in February and 2 weeks in Mar/April:

Presidents Days: Monday, February 20, and Tuesday, February 21 (school closed)

Spring Break:
Friday, March 17, classes end
Monday, April 3, classes resume

Option C: some schools have requested a later Spring Break for overlap w/ Option A

Friday, March 24, classes end
Monday, April 10, classes resume

Passover: Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7
Good Friday: Friday, April 7
Easter: Sunday, April 9
Eid: Friday, April 21 to Saturday, April 22
Memorial Day: Monday, May 29 (school closed)
Closing day: Week of June 12
